Welcome

Congratulations mama or papa you are joining the exclusive parents of multiples club. If you are reading this perhaps you have just discovered you are pregnant with twins and looking for information on what it is like. While there is a lot of scary information out there on twin pregnancies, do not let it define your experience. What I can share is my pregnancy was far better than I thought it would be and mostly enjoyable until one of my twin babies started kicking my ribs in the third trimester. While headaches, nausea, acid reflex, and frequent middle of the night bathroom trips are more than annoying, there are often steps to minimize the pain that requires exploring with your OB-GYN (who is hopefully a maternal fetal medicine doctor specializing in twin pregnancies).

Acupuncture, nausea bands, daily walking, and pregnancy/wedge pillows worked for most of mine. Every woman is different and it is important to experiment with safe ways to get through this pregnancy feeling the best you can. Sometimes nothing works but thinking through how to minimize symptoms was at least a welcome distraction in my case.

Being a mom of twins is magical, especially as pregnancy progresses. I witnessed my boys interacting in the womb during sonograms. I felt their simultaneous movements as they grew in my belly and was comforted knowing they were with me everyday as they developed. The three of us felt like our very own team of one. Coordinating our movements, communicating our needs, and negotiating my body. I will never forget how I would tap my belly and have two of them play with me as they kicked me back. Hearing their first cries is the most joyous sensory experience of my life and one I will never forget. Whatever your pregnancy journey, may it be full of magic, the likes of which as the mama of multiples is compounded.
